Weekly Round-Up 

This week, despite starting a little wet, the weather has been much better, which meant we could finally have playtimes on the field and enjoy some outdoor learning!

It was great to speak to you this week during our parents evening calls; thank you for giving us your time.

As part of our English work this week, the children have compared ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’ stories and used the conjunction ‘because’ to explain which we preferred. We also created our own solution to the pesky seagull problem! The children did a great job at writing these up using this term’s learning.

In Maths the Year 1 children have enjoyed learning about ‘mass’, using the balances to weigh and compare objects. We also recapped one more and one less using numbers to 50.

We completed our art focus on printing this week. The children created their own printing tile and then used these to create multiple prints, inspired by Andy Warhol – messy but fun and some great results.


The first week after half term will be our annual arts week. This year we are using a text as our focus; planning our English and arts activities around this text. If your child has access to one of your old shirts/t-shirts that could be worn to protect their school uniform please bring it in (named) on Monday 7th June, the start of term 6.

We are planning lots of different activities and will put together a film to share with you as we are unable to hold an exhibition again  this year.


The children have all got a username and password for Bug Club, which is an invaluable reading resource. Please support your child in accessing this resource and if you have any difficulties please get in touch. It would be great if your child could access Bug Club at least a couple of times a week. Not only does it help your child with their reading but also the comprehension of what they are reading.


We hope you’re still getting out to add to our Street Tag score, despite the less than desirable weather! Thank you for taking part.


TERM 6 begins on Monday 7th June.

ARTS WEEK: 7th-11th June

SNACKS: These should be healthy; a piece of fruit or cereal bar.

FOOTWEAR: Children should wear SCHOOL SHOES on the days that they don’t do PE, which will be three days of the week. On PE days children are allowed to wear trainers.

Please remember to reinforce the correct pencil grip at home; the correct letter and number formation.
